The second edition of the "Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination: A Path towards a Rights-Based Post-COVID Recovery" took place November 28th and 29th 2022, at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex in Mexico City. This Forum set the stage for evaluating where we stand in the fight against racism in Mexico. It also provided a platform for relevant actors from the public, private, and civil society sectors who are advocating for effective strategies against racism and discrimination.

In this context, the Global Coalition Against Systemic Racism and for Reparations was introduced as an initiative that brings together diverse sectors, institutions, organizations, companies, and individuals to promote a culture that ensures dignity and generates reparative justice for the victims of racism.

The Coalition emerges in response to the urgent Call to Action by the High Commissioner for Human Rights in her Report on Systemic Racism following the cruel and unacceptable murder of George Floyd by the police. It also stems from discussions held during the commemoration of the first International Day for People of African Descent on August 31, 2021, organized by the government of Costa Rica with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the United Nations System. This effort is also supported by the mandate assigned at the 40th meeting of the UNESCO General Conference, where member states "adopted a decision requesting the Director-General to strengthen the organization's contribution to combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related forms of intolerance, including incitement to racial hatred and hate crimes" (Resolution 40 C/39).
